I want to highlight our newest counseling group running at Elite Psychology and Wellness. We are excited to have a PostPartum Counseling Group for our new moms!

This group is both a psycho-educational and support group that is filled with important and relevant information, coping strategies, and continued support for our new moms.

Although postpartum is something that women can experience after giving birth and can fully recover from, most people don’t realize the impact that postpartum can have on a new mom, new dad, or on the family as a whole.

According to Postpartum Depression.org, 1 in 10 women in the United States will experience
postpartum depression after giving birth and this number most likely may be closer to 1 in 7. It is estimated that 75% of new moms will also experience postpartum anxiety.

Postpartum is typically considered the 4th trimester with women still experiencing physical and emotional symptoms. These symptoms are all occurring while caring for a newborn, managing a new identity and new dynamics of your relationship and more. Oh and all this while most likely sleep derived!

Some new moms feel guilty or shameful that they are experiencing sadness or anxiety at a time that should only be filled with excitement and joy. Some new moms have waited a really long time to get to this place and are overwhelmed by some of these emotions they are feeling. And some new moms don’t even realize they are experiencing bouts of anxiety or other mood related issues because of all the focus being and needing to be placed on the newborn. All of these experiences and any others a new mom is feeling are normative. And there is help for what you are going through.

Postpartum is a real thing. And it is okay if you are experiencing postpartum symptoms. It’s also okay and very encouraged to seek help so that you can get the support you need to learn
coping skills at this time and begin incorporating your new identity into your old so you can feel better..

You don’t have to walk this new journey alone. In fact, with the help of our group, you now canwalk with other new moms, and an experienced provider, who can help you feel more
connected to yourself, your new identity and to other moms experiencing the same things you are!

If you or someone you know is experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, give our office a call today. We can help support you through this time!
